A few years ago we asked ourselves how we could make a good backing even better. After analysing the most important requirements for a backing we discovered that these were an even greater tensile strength - at a lower volume, a longer life, UV stability and very strong knot strength.
We tested various materials and the breakthrough came when we combined a new braiding technique with a high performance thread. The result is the best backing that we know of. The main advantage is that even though it has a very small diameter, it has the quality to flatten out on the reel. This means no more cutting through itself! The tensile strength is higher and the diameter less than conventional backing and the colour is very visible.
The tensile strength of this Backing is 65 lbs (approx. 30 kg)! This may appear exorbitant to some Trout anglers but, even in this situation, our Super Backing does have the advantage of the fish feeling less water pressure on the line, during long runs and drills. When fly fishing for larger fish this advantage becomes even more apparent.
